A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
